15 days trip

As I mentioned before I'm going to South Island from 22 December.
It's 15 days trip with 24 people including bus driver and guides (Actually they don't seem to be a guide, but I'm not sure. It might be similar to a guide).
The places I'm going to visit are showed below.

Auckland
Wellington
Pinton
Kaikoura
Tekapo
Queenstown
Queenstown Milford Sound
Franz Josef
Fox Glaciers
Motueka

While I'm travelling, I'm not sure that I can use wireless internet, so I may not update this blog for the time being.
When I come back from trip, I can uproad several articles to the blog certainly.
As such I have to tell in advance,
"Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!"

TED talks 4

I'm glad to see the Amy Cardy's presentation.
She told us how body languages can affect us and might have an impact on our chances for success.
I always use negative body language because of my mind, and I don't become confident.
As a result I often fail something.

In her opinion, if we try 2 minutes positive language everyday and keep it, we can change.
The below phrase she said might be true.
"Fake it till you become it"

Amy Cardy: Your body language shapes who you are

Bungy jump

I'm going to 15 days trip to South Island from December 22.
I booked the highest bungy jump in the world.
I'm feeling a little nervous because I've never tried it.
But this must be a tremendous opportunity and I think it has a possibility to change myself.
I've been thinking that the decision to try something new builds myself strongly.
I'm not sure whether I can do such a thing or not, though, I can never know unless I do it.
I'll report it after coming back from trip.
Please wait for a while.

Sailing

I'd like to give a describe of today's aftenoon class.
As I mentioned before, we went to the devonport in afternoon class even though our class is conversation.
And also, we went sailing in that class yesterday.
The last week, teacher asked us, "Would you like to go outside? If so, where would you like to go?"
And the one students said, "I want to go sailing."
At that time we thought it was so expensive that we conluded not to go sailing.
After the class, however, the teacher seemed to be looking for how to go sailing cheaply and she finally found out.
Usually we have to pay more than $150 for it, but the one she found out was only $20.
We discussed the fare and decided to go sailing.

Unfortunately it raind a lot, it was a little tough for me.
Although such a bad weather, we could enjoy it and I thought it was a nice experience.

This conversation class is funny, but I have to change the class from next year because I'd like to learn something new.
Actually there are a variety of classes in the afternoon and what I'll try is for those who are interested in looking for job.

I'm sorry, teacher. I have to change.
I appreciate her some suggestions to do activities.
I hope that I'll be able to take her class again.

Takapuna beach

Takapuna beach, which is in north shore in Auckland, is very beautiful.
Many people enjoy wind surfin, football, Frisbee, and so on.
As water is warm enough to swim, some people are also enjoying swimming.
It's the best season to enjoy swimming now, so I will try it in this summer.
Anyway, there are many beautiful beaches in New Zealand.
I hope to visit as much as possible.

Kafka on the shore

I borrowed one book, titled "Kafka on the shore" by Haruki Murakami.
Although I've already read it in Japanese, I wanted to try to read in English.
Fortunately he is famous not only in Japan but also in some other countries, we can read his books in English.

Frankly speaking, I sometimes come across a difficult word but I can guess to some extent.
This kind of difficulties don't bother me so much.
I'd like to read ahead soon.
I think reading books is very useful to increase vocaburaly.
I should make the time to read books as much as possible.

Devonport

Devonport, across the sea from downtown, is great place to enjoy the sightseeing in Auckland.
I went there on Thurthday's afternoon class (actually it was a conversation class) with a teacher and classmates.
It was sunny with a bit wind, and an ideal weather to walk around.
It took approximately 10 minutes from downtown to debonport, and it cost $11.
We can go there at ease.

Anyway, when we went to the summit of mountain, there was amazing scenary.
We could see the city, the beautiful beach, and the other islands.
I thought it was better view than one of Mt. Eden probably because debonport is surrounded by the sea.
I was satisfied with this small trip. I appreciate the teacher for taking us there.

As of now

Two weeks have passed since I arrived at Auckland.
To live here makes me comfortable because of the people's kindness.
As you know, Auckland is the biggest city in New Zealand, I don't have to worry about daily life.
Moreover there are many beautiful places near the city, I can visit everytime I want to go.

Regardless of such a great life, I have the serious problem now - needless to say, it's the English skill.
Even though two weeks have already passed, I can't listen to English well.
Of cource I can't speak well because of the above reason.
Perhaps I'm better at the grammar and reading skills than other countries' students.
As for the listening and speaking skills, however, I can't help having a sense of inferiority.

When I arrived, I was optimistic.
I was thinking as below,
"I've been studying for a long time, let it be if I go."
But I recognized my ability was worse than I expected.
On 4th February, I 'm going to enter in "Travel & Tourism, Airline" cource.
This will be very hard for me because almost students are kiwi (maybe more than 80%).
Now I can manage to some extent because I'm studying "English", but I'm not sure if I could learn the new things "in English".
I'm required to be better at English to be able to catch up with native speed.
It's tough for me, but I must do.
If only I kept having my belief, I would be able to get over.

Coca Cola Christmas Party

The Coca Cola Christmas Party held in the park yesterday.
Some famous singers and bands sang and performed on the stage.
There were extremely many people. It was amazing.
Even though it was enjoyable and people seemed to be happy, I was tired because of too many people and a little cold.
However I could see a night view of Auckland for the first time.
Sky tower, the symbol of the city, was lighted up brilliantly, and it created a kind of unusualness.
I like such a bewitching scene.

Mt. Eden

Yesterday I went to Mt. Eden which is the small mountain in Auckland.
It took approximately 30 minutes from city centre, and more 25 minutes from the foot to the summit of it.
The view from the summit was splendid.
I could see the beautiful sea and the buildings in the city at all angles.
There were many people who enjoy the scenery.
Meanwhile there were some runners, and they were running to the summit. Exactly it was a good place to run because the road was well-paved.
As running is very popular sport in New Zealand, we can see many runners in the city.
Because of the changeable weather, we couldn't avoid encountering the sudden strong wind or rain.
But except for that fact, Auckland is wonderful place to enjoy running.
Needless to say, it's also comfortable to live in.

By the way, there's also beautiful place to enjoy the view of the suburbs of the city, named One Tree Hill.
Although it is a little farer than Mt. Eden and I might use bus, I'd like to go there once.

DRESS SMART

I went to DRESS SMART, which is the outlet mall in Auckland, with my friend yesterday.
It took about 30 minutes from city centre.
I think it was a bit far, but we could be eager to go there because a free shuttle bus runs regulary.
In that place, there were many stores and a variety of goods, such as cloths, shoes, accessories, daily necessities, etc. were sold cheeply.
Of cource we can have lunch at a food court.
Needless to say, such an outlet mall is popular in Japan.
Even though kind of shops, prices and assortments were very similar to Japanese ones, I could find out some really cheap goods.
What a great place to buy something with saving money!
We're going to go there again next week because we didn't have enough time to buy yesterday.
I appreciate that my friend took me there.

Account at a bank

Last Friday, I opened up my account at the National Bank.
I can use from now, because I got the cash card yesterday.
Account at a bank is important to receive money from Japan and salary from the working.
As I can do a part-time job from Februaly, I have to get an ERD number so that I work here.

Meiji-Restoration

Can you explain Meiji-Restoration (The big change occured in Japan in 1868) in English?
The day before yesterday, I had an opportunity to explain it at afternoon conversation class.
But I couldn't do that. I could explain only that western culture came and some tiny information.
I think it's very difficult to explain the history.
The other foreigners are intersted in other countries' history or culture, so there are many opportunities to talk about that.

Albert Park

Yesterday I went to the Albert Park which is in the back side of CROWN.
Although wind was very strong, it was very comfortable to walk around.
Therer were many kind of birds in the park. I have never seen some of them.

Living in Auckland

A week passed since I arrived in New Zealand.
Though I didn't know anything at first, I got used to live here.
Teachers and other countries' students are very kind and friendly.

There are many office buildings, shops, public facilities, and many people in Auckland city.
We can live easily, but we should have an umbrella in preparation for uncertain weather.

I have to make an effort not to speak Japanese so much because there are many Japanese studednts.

Nov 28, 2012

Arrived

I arrived in New Zealand on 25th Nov.
The flight was very hard, and I was so exhausted.
However my first impression about New Zealand was excellent.
There was a great sky, clean air, and good weather.

In my homestay, there are four other countries' students who are from China, Korea, Brazil, Germany.
That is fun. They are cheerful and very good at speaking English.
I'm just overwhelmed by them because they speak a lot nevertheless I can't listen so much what they say. Though it's hard to catch up with them, it's a great and important opportunity.
I should utilize this as much as possible.
I want to make each day carefully.

By the way, the English school have started from Monday.
On the first day, I took a test to determine what class I'm placed into.
My class is high intermediate. I think this level is a little hard for me.
But, I'll make an effort to catch up with other students and never give up.
As I don't get used to the life in Auckland now, I'm nervous and feeling tired.
More time is needed to be usual.

Nov 24, 2012

Departure is coming soon.

I have been waiting for this day.
After I arrived in New Zealand, I would like to try whatever new for me.
During the several English lessons in this month, the teachers said "Be confident. you did well."
Exactly I haven't been confident of my English skill, especially "speaking skill" because I'm not accustomed to do it.
However, as I made a number of opportunities to speak English this month, I got a bit confident.
Of cource the more practice again and again, the better speak English.
All I have to do is to be confident and be bold.

I don't know how many rates I can update this blog, but I do my best to improve my English skills and to tell the life in New Zealand.

Nov 21, 2012

A little nervous

Over the past few days, I'm a bit more nervous than before.
Though I feel I'm getting better at speaking English exactly, I'm anxious whether I would be able to get along with foreigners, of cource I have to be bold and confident to get along with them....
Recently I feel the complex emotions including nervous, anxious, excited, irritated, etc.
As a result, to think about how to be confident is way over my head now.

By the way, a month has already passed since I quit a job.
It was a little difficult to endure this term because I didn't have anything to do so much.
However I'm relieved from boring life soon. I'm very glad about that point.

I'll brace myself to be a great trip.

Nov 20, 2012

International Driving Permit

International driving permit is required to drive in foreign countries.
Driving is the most convenient way to go around New Zealand.

I don't know if I have an opportunity to drive, but I got the permit.
It's so easy, we should get it when we go abroad.

Fortunately, the traffic rule is very similar with Japanese one.
I hope I would drive all over New Zealand.

Nov 19, 2012

Sightseeing in Tokyo

I went sightseeing in Tokyo with a senior and friends today.
As I rarely go around Tokyo, it was curious and I could fully enjoy it.

We started from Shinjyuku at 9:00 and went to the metropolitan goverment at first.
The scene there was magnificent and we could see at no charge.
We found it to be a great spot.
After then, we walked around Tokyo including Meiji Jingu, Jingu Gaien, and Roppongi hills etc.
It took so much time to do that, but we could get a big pleasure.

I'm glad to go sightseeing this time because I mightn't be able to do that in Japan for the time being.

Of cource I want to go anywhere valuable for me in New Zealand and I do my best to tell the experience.
This is one of the objective in this blog.

Nov 17, 2012

Improve memory

Recently I'm learning how to improve my memory at online English conversation school.
And I want to reffer to these ways so as to build English vocabulary.
The following ten ways were introduced in the textbook of cutting-edge class.

 1. Take an interest - make an effort
 2. Repeat things
 3. Form a mental picture
 4. Invent a story
 5. Organize your ideas
 6. Listen to Mozart
 7. Take mental exercise
 8. Take physical exercise
 9. Eat the right things
 10. Drink coffee

I think mental ways, especially No3 and 4, are very important to remember something.
Nowadays I feel so irritated because I can't express what I think about in English.
I attribute why I can't do that to poor vocabulary.
Why can't I build vocabulary?  - I think I have to figure the ways out more.

Exactly I often repeat reading stories or sentences but I'm not making the ways better.
Inventing a story or Organizing my ideas might be essential to improve my memory.

I'm a little frustrated now, but I should be patient.
There are a week remaining by the departure.

Nov 16, 2012

English Resume

Needless to say, English Resume is required to work in foreign countries.
There are several types and we can comparatively write freely unlike in the case of Japanese ones.
I'm rethinking about myself and reviewing my work experiences so that I could write English Resume.

It's so difficult to write my whole experiences easily and exactly, but it would be helpful to know about myself.

Moreover as I try new things, it's also difficult to relate the last experiences to the new jobs.
I need to review it again and again, and I would like someone to revise.

Nov 15, 2012

IELTS

Regarding the test of English, I used to take TOEIC which is the most popular in Japan.
But I have to take IELTS from now because it's the most popular one in New Zealand.
Unlike in the case of TOEIC, it has writing and speaking section.
That's why IELTS is more popular than TOEIC in New Zealand or Australia and the other countries.
Generally speaking, TOEFL might be the most popular English test all over the world.

By the way, I want to get at least 5.0 score on IELTS as soon as possible because the score is condition for working there.
As we all know, we can't work in a foreign country unless we have the minimum ability of the country's language.

I just study hard!

Nov 13, 2012

Grammar in use

I'm studying grammar rules in English because I feel somewhat out of place to learn English grammar in Japanese.

As "Ryu-gaku journal" counselor recommended me Raymond Murphy's grammar book, I'm studying with it.
Though this book is for intermediate, it gives a lot of contents including basic ones and I can learn all of basic grammar from it.

Actually I was confident of grammar, but I found out I was poor at it during talking with native speakers.
As I study it again, I think I'll be able to be better speaker.

About Host Family

As I mentioned before, I'm going to New Zealand this month.
I'll stay with host family at least for first 2 months.
Indeed it has already decided. A grandmother will host to me.

It takes 30 or 40 minutes from her house to the school by bus.
Confirmed with Google map, it seems to be idyllic and have large yard.
I think living there must be comfortable.

I sent a letter to her yesterday.
I'm looking forward to seeing her.

There are only two weeks until deperture.
I have to study English very hard.
This is very serious problem because I'll go there not to study English but to study in English.

TED talks 3

Caroline Casey who has visual defect told the story of her extraordinary life in TED talks.
Her presentation was very powerful and she indicated us the various possibility of our own life.
I was impressed how amazing her life was.
She said, if we have vision and belief, we can create a change in our life.
I think her point of view is very wonderful.
I recommend to see her presentation at least once.

Ays English

I took four lessons of online English school today!
I came to be accustomed to this kind of lessons and I'm enjoying them now.

I will try not only free lessons but also charged one because I should speak English as much as possible. My favorite school is "Ays English" because online lesson room is very clear and the quality of teachers is great. I'm going to take more than 30 lessons by departure.

Remaining time is so little that I will make an effort to improve my English skill.

Nov 5, 2012

NOVA

Recently I 'm taking many English school's lessons.

NOVA, one of them, is very famous for NOVA rabit and we used to hear it the TV commercial.
The teachers and counselors were so kind that I could be relax.
Since there was 15,000-yen off admission campaign, I could take additional lessons reasonably.
I will study hard to be accustomed to native speaker's speed.

P.S.
They gave me 30 packs of instant ramens!
They're too many to eat alone....

Nov 4, 2012

Langrich

"Langrich" is online English conversation school.
I took a free lesson today.
I thought it was the best lesson I have ever experienced because teachers' quality was high.
I have to study English so hard that I want to continue English conversation in this school.

Nov 3, 2012

ECC

I learned English at ECC today.
This lesson was also free for only one time.

The lesson was great because the teacher pointed out my mistakes with accuracy.
I think I should take more lessons as of now and that is very useful for me.
However, it costs so much that I'm unwilling to take them.

I have to decide immediately.

Nov 1, 2012

Swift

Today I sold my car to prepare for going abroad.
"Swift" produced by SUZUKI corporation worked hard as my car for three years.

I feel sorrowful a little but I can't help doing it because I need cash now.
I'm using the alternative car "Lapin" whose color is pink. (Completely for women, it's too pretty.)
I will return it on 14th-Nov.

Some perplexing procedure for going abroad is going well and there are only a few remainings.
I have to deal with them bit by bit.

TED talks 2

I would like to introduce the TED talks again today.

Jane McGonigal: Gaming can make a better world
http://www.ted.com/talks/jane_mcgonigal_gaming_can_make_a_better_world.html

This presentation was taken by Jane McGonigal who is a game designer.
Why I'm into this presentation rely on following reasons.

At first, she has a new perspective.
She is suggesting we should play games more often and explaining why we should do so.
Actually I don't play games. I think spending more time for playing games would be wasted.
(There may be many people who have the same opinion.)
However, I could receive her suggestion because she didn't tell us to just play games.
She said that the gamers who have spent more than 10,000 hours on playing games are experts.
So to speak, there are great numbers of experts at something all over the world.
I really consent to her way of thinking and it's very important to consider the negative factor as possitive.
We can contemplate what or how to use them in.
She could find out several solutions but there might be other ideas.

Secondly, the construction of her presentation was very excellent.
I could listen to her speaking very naturally.
I think I want to follow her way of presentation.

Moreover, you can see another presentation made by her, titled "The game that can give you 10 extra years of life".
I like it too and it's also astonishing.
Please check it by yourself.

TED talks

We can see TED talks, which is presentation event, on website.
I often check this site because there are many movies of presentations prominant persons make.
These presentations are sometimes emphatic or hopeful or useful or funny.
A variety of talks make us excited.

Today I introduce the very valuable presentation made by Tali Sharot titled "The optimistic bias".
She talks about pros and cons of optimism. The persons who have an optimism are likely to success, but having only this property is not enough. We should be not only optimistic but also deliberate, namely we have to prepare for the future.

The structure of her presentation is very splendid and her voice is comfortable to listen to.
If you got interested in this talk, please access the website of TED.

Gaba

Gaba is the man-to-man English school.
It gives many levels' lessons and there are many options about a lesson style.
I received a free lesson today.

It was shock to find out I couldn't express my thought at all.
Exactly I was nervous and quite unused to this style's lesson, but I should have been able to speak better.
I thought again I wouldn't follow the lessons in the field unless I make a further effort while I'm in Japan.

After the free lesson, the counselor suggested me to receive short-term lessons for a month, though, it was too expensive for me. Since I have to save money, I won't receive additional lessons.
Actually Gaba gives us high quality lessons and it would be very helpful to brush our English skill.
If it wasn't so expensive, I could take lessons.

Oct 28, 2012

Haruki Murakami

Nowadays I read the book of "Haruki Murakami" international edition.
I like his book from the begining, and I'm trying to read in English.
Though there are many difficult words, I can predict to some extent because I have known the contents of the book.

He brought out many famous books, for example, "Norwegian Wood", "Kafka on the Shore", and "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World".
Especially, "What I talk about when I talk about running" which is a memoir is easy to read comparatively.
He is a runner and he describes his running-life style.
Since I also like running, I feel some empathy for this book.

This is my recommendation.
If you are interested in Haruki Murakami or you are a runner, reading this book would be great for you.

Oct 27, 2012

AEON

Speaking of English school, the most famous one in Japan is "AEON".
I have three chances of taking free lesson in AEON because I enrolled in "Ryu-gaku journal" program.
I experienced the lesson today for the first time.

Actually, it was very fun and excited to talk with teachers and it made me confident.
I was happy because I could speak more fluently than I expected.
Moreover the counselor was very kind and she taught me the details of lessons.

Quality is so enough that I'm looking forward to taking next lesson.

See you.

Online English conversation

Today I took part in the online English conversation on Skype.
Though it was very difficult for me to express my thought in English, I enjoyed talking with the teacher from Philippines.

It took 25 minutes for 1 lesson and it included various contents, for example, free talk, vocabulary, describing about a picture, arranging sequent story and so on...

I think this must be valuable for me, so I will participate the other lecture on Skype from now.

See you.

Cold day

It was very cold and wind was very strong today.
I felt winter is coming.

By the flight to New Zealand on next month, all I have to do is studying English as much as possible.
Since I thought I should brush speaking skill, I subscribed English school on Skype.
There are free experiences and I will try one tomorrow.
If it will be good for me, I want to do for several times by next month.

Skype have already installed and trying is set.

See you tomorrow.

About this blog's title

I made a mistake yesterday.
I forgot to title the first post...

By the way, I have to describe this blog.
Recently I quit a job and decided to go to New Zealand so as to study new things.
As I mentioned yesterday, I don't have enough English skill now and I will go there next month.
As a result of thought to improve it, this blog was set up.

Of cource I try to send whatever I feel in New Zealand as of the date I go there.
I'm preparing to challenge now.
I decided to start this blog to brush my English skill.
Expressing what I think in English is difficult, but I believe I make it possible to use English usually.

Although my English is poor at this time, please be patient and be free to point out mistakes.
